2,171 wordsWhat's going on guys Josh pook here and we've covered cursor many different times on this channel and we've also covered GitHub co-pilot and we cover many different AI pair programmers on this channel and there is currently an AI coding race right now to become the best ID now for a long time a lot of people were saying cursor is the best IDE and GitHub co-pilot vs code has been falling behind but recently vs code and GitHub co-pilot has been rolling up
Some crazy new up dates that we're going to take a look at GitHub co-pilot's been releasing a lot of crazy new features such as multifile editing and a bunch of different features that are similar to what cursor has they even release their models Marketplace which allows you to use different models like GPT 40 and 01 preview for free using their API and in today's video we're going to be taking a look at their updated AI toolkit and how you can actually
Use it in VSS code but the battle doesn't stop there cursor is not going down with a fight they recently just purchased super Maven the best AI pair programmer for super fast autocomplete we're going to take a look at both of these advancements let's dive right into [Music] it all right guys so before we get into it just so you know GitHub co-pilot is $10 a month they do have a business version for 20 bucks and an Enterprise version for 40
Bucks which means currently it is about half the price of a cursor which is 20 bucks a month for their pro version and 40 bucks a month for their business version now personally I don't mind paying more for better quality um which cursor has been definitely you know in the lead with up until you know now it's getting kind of close I would say cuz VSS code is definitely putting out more features trying to catch up to uh cursor which of
Course is a fork ofs code so I'll leave a link to their change logs as well as everything that we cover into today's video down below including the different blog posts and the links to the extensions and whatnot but like I mentioned vs code has been releasing different things that are similar to the features that cursor has like multifile editing Etc and this AI toolkit is pretty cool as well I'll leave a link down below so you can simply just go
To this link and click on install or you can open up vs code go to your extensions over here and then search for AI toolkit once you do that you're simply going to click on this and install it now this extension has been around for a while but they recently got some updates that actually make it a lot better so once you have this extension installed all you're going to do is click on the AI toolkit right here this is going
To open up the AI toolkit panel as you can see here we have my models we have catalog right here with models we have tools right here so we have a playground fine-tuning and then help and feedback okay so we're going to start by clicking on models right here to open the model catalog that is going to load all the different models right here similar to kind of like the models we were just seeing in the catalog um that you can
Use through the API now we can see there's currently 55 modos right here you can filter by uh hosted by so hosted by GitHub anthropic Google open aai Onyx okay you can filter by publisher right here um task device type dpu CPU and then local run models or remote access models we can see we got uh models like Claude Sonet 3.5 right here we got all the different anthropic models coh here Google Gemini and then we have ones that are uh
Like GPT 40 GPT 40 mini we got meta models right here so llama 3.1 we got mraw we got the 01 models so o1 preview 01 mini and then we got some open source models again like 53 5 3.5 by 3.5 mini Etc all right so if we go ahead and click on Sonet 3.5 try and playground it's going to ask us for our API key right here so we can use the anthropic API key right here if you already have
It set in your environment variable or you can input your API key okay so I already have the API key in our environment variable so I'm just going to click on that then you can see here we can actually talk to claw 3.5 song on it as we were having like a a chat conversation per se like in something like cursor or in chat GPT whatever the case may be you'll see that we can add some context instructions right here we
Can change some of the inference parameters such as Max response L tokens temperature top p and we can see our token count right here and then you can go ahead and just for example let's say write me the pawn game and python we can see here that Claud Sonet 3.5 is generating this code as you can see here all right so it gives us the instructions on how to run this code as well as the exact code right here now the
One thing is it doesn't even have a copy button right here which is kind of annoying and to use it you would actually have to highlight it all copy it and then go over to whatever file you have let's just say we had pong. py right here and then paste in the code save it run it Etc so it's a little bit tedious not as easy as something like maybe cursor chat where you can simply just click on apply and it
Will apply to your file or even get Hub chat which as you can see right here it's now more deeply integrated into vs code right here but the AI toolkit is good to use if you're using VSS code or even if you're not really and you want access to these models you could also use it with uh GitHub co-pilot okay so now that you see we used Claud son 3.5 we can see under my models we have that in remote models
All right same thing if I went to 01 preview right here try and playground we can use our open AI API key right here and now we're going to see o1 preview right here loaded under our remote models up here we can filter our models that we use so I could filter back to 3.5 Sonet or back to 0 preview okay if you want to use a model that's hosted by GitHub you can simply just um click on load in playground
And then it's going to ask you to sign in GitHub you can sign into GitHub and then you'll be able to use that model in playground like here we have 53.5 which is hosted by GitHub as you can see now that I'm signed in we can chat with this model all right and let's say we wanted to use a local model for example 53.5 mini right here CPU we can go ahead and click on download that's going to start downloading the
Model onto our system right here and once that's done we'll be able to chat with it in the playground all right now we can click on load in playground once it's downloaded and now we'll be able to chat with a local model as well all right so as you can see here I just asked it to write us a website in HTML and CSS and a little bit slow cuz it's a local model but you can see here it is generating
The code so we can see our local models here are remote models and there is also some fine-tuning options right here as you can see we got hugging face um different models right here I'm not going to get into that right now but you can check that out if you want so that's AI toolkit by vs code pretty cool stuff now on the other side like I mentioned earlier cursor just purchased super Maven if you've been following this channel we've covered
Many different AI care programmers idees Etc and I've talked about the AI IDE race and you know the war going on and this is pretty crazy because of course we've seen you know cursor is pretty much leading it right now um in terms of just what you know most people would say and super Maven is something that you know personally I never really used too much but you know I used a bit tried it out and I know a lot of
People really liked its autocomplete feature because it had one of the best and fast this Auto completes so now that this will be pretty much implemented into cursor that is going to be gamechanging for sure I'm very excited for that we should see an update on that in the future now they still will continue to maintain the super Maven extension which we'll be able to be used in things like vs code Etc but they will be implementing it into um cursor
You know pretty immediately they said now I will leave both of these short blog posts Down Below in case you want to read into them uh cursor is mentioning that one thing they're really focusing on is their tab feature so implementing super Maven into kind of their tab feature and seeing some sort of a hybrid and if you want more details in terms of what their vision is um going forward with cursor as well as the super Maven merge I'll leave
A link down below to this short video with Theo as well as the uh founder of super Maven and one of the founders of cursor right here where they go in depth about talking about the merge as well as um cursor's you know vision where with the capabilities of what the cursor tab will be able to do for you when you're coding I think it's pretty interesting and it's going to be very interesting to see who kind of wins this race
Let me know Down Below guys if you think it's going to be cursor if you think it's going to be vs code maybe you think it's going to be pair AI who knows right and just over a month ago we did mention on this channel how super Maven raised $12 million to build a text editor so it seemed like they were going to jump into the IDE race but that's definitely no longer the case as they're merging with cursor so I
Am extremely excited to see what they have in store let me know what your thoughts are in the comments Down Below guys if you're new to the channel we upload videos about AI Marketing sales coding Etc so if you like that type of content you got some value here make sure to smash the like button comment down below and subscribe to stay up to date with the uploads also too guys if you haven't already joined our free community stri community.com our
